Reporting to the Medical Director, the medical writer is an important part of the creative team, contributing to the development of impactful and creative advertising campaigns. In this role, you’ll be responsible for writing different forms of copy (promotional, educational, scientific) for health care professionals, patients, and consumers in various media formats (print, digital, web, social media, etc.). The medical writer must be able to understand, interpret, and synthesize scientific information. You will be called upon to work with members of the strategic and creative teams, as well as freelancers. You will also liaise with the Pharmaceutical Advertising Advisory Board (PAAB) and agency clients.

Requirements
- Bachelor or Master of Science, Pharmacology, or a related discipline
OR
Degree in English writing, journalism, or any related discipline, with a strong interest in science - Mastery of written and spoken English; knowledge of French is a plus
- Experience as a medical writer in an advertising agency is considered an asset
- Knowledge and application of PAAB Code and Advertising Standards Canada (ASC) Code is considered an asset
- Mastery of MS Office suite software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Main responsibilities
- Write an outline and copy (scientific, clinical, medical, or creative) based on a project brief
- Source/reference documents and upload them using different client portals for medical/legal/regulatory internal review
- Work with the creative team to develop concepts and impactful layouts
- Edit or re-work copy based on client or internal comments until copy approval is obtained
- Ensure that consistent terminology is used in different tools for the same brand
- Understand regulations (PAAB Code and ASC Code) in order to:
- Guide the work of the creative team and validate the feasibility of proposed tactics/layouts
- Suggest content that will limit the number of rounds with PAAB/ASC while seeking approval of the most impactful message possible
- Negotiate with PAAB/ASC and determine the best POA for response letters
- Educate/explain the limitations of the codes to clients
- Represent the client’s voice and interests when speaking with PAAB/ASC
